Ten Reasons I Love About Taekwondo (PTKD)
~ By Matt McNabb ~
1. Fellowship/Friendship- My fellow students are more than just students, they are friends. We share a common goal- to be the best Tae Kwon Do students possible. We celebrate our success together and root for each other.
2. Knowledge- I learn how to gain knowledge and apply that knowledge. Tae Kwon Do is a constant learning experience; you never stop learning. You can apply everything you learn, inside and outside the classroom.
3. Challenge- Everyday I am challenged. Whether it is learning a new form, a new word, or trying to do something physical I never thought I could do. I learn ways to meet that challenge and succeed.
4. Growth- Everything I learn and every challenge I take on makes me grow. Grow as a person and as a successful student. Growth is what makes you better at all you do.
5. Discipline- Knowledge, challenge, and growth all take discipline to achieve. The discipline to study new material to gain knowledge. Discipline to keep trying to meet a new challenge and be successful. Discipline to do whatever it takes to grow as a person and student.
6. Blueprint for Living- The Tenets of Tae Kwon Do (Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit) are a great foundation for living your life. All of these practiced together will help develop you into a well-rounded person and a living manifestation of the spirit of Tae Kwon Do.
7. Passion- In order to be successful at Tae Kwon Do you must have a passion. Passion to learn and succeed. Passion to try. Passion to be the best person and student that you can be.
8. Teaching- You are taught much more than moves and forms in Tae Kwon Do. You are taught how to test yourself. You are taught to do things you didn’t think you could do. You teach others as well. Whether you help a new student with the basics or setting a good example for others to follow, there is always an opportunity to teach or be taught.
9. Goal Setting/Goal Attainment- You learn in order to be successful you must set goals and give everything you can to achieve those goals. When you reach those goals, you set more and keep going.
10. Sacrifice- Everything you do in Tae Kwon Do is done with a certain amount of sacrifice. You must attend class, you must give your time and energy to learn and practice in order to be the best. Nothing worth having comes for free.
